10 Good Things: A winter coat, vintage glassware and the woolly overshirt
A round up of the best sustainable things from the past month!
I finally bought my winter coat. In Feb…. I’ve worn it once, and it already feels too warm. Not that I’m complaining! It’s the Elyssia Coat from Malene Birger. It’s tobacco brown, and I bought it oversize. It’s 100% recycled polyamide, which could contribute to the heat. However, it feels lovely, and I would enjoy wearing it if the temperature was still as cold!
A problem with ethical and sustainable fragrances is they aren’t easy to sample. Ffern, get around this by sending a full-size bottle directly with a sample - you can return the full-size bottle if you don’t like the sample. Sana Jardin sells a discovery set with their eight bestselling perfumes in sample sizes. I bought the samples and went back for a full-size Berber Blonde. They are vegan, cruelty-free and made using clean ingredients. The bottles are beautiful, too.
I keep seeing shell jewellery everywhere. Mana has the most beautiful shell necklaces. This shell design is made from pigmented porcelain. I can’t decide if I prefer the black or white. I’ve also been seeing lots of shell-inspired decor pieces too. Pouf Copenhagen has the best selection of vintage shell bits I’ve seen. Most of them are sold out, but fingers crossed they will be updated soon!
I’ve been wearing these earrings all month. They make even the most boring outfit that bit better. I’ve been looking for the perfect chunky silver earrings for ages. Flash has so many pretty pieces; most if not all are made using recycled metals. They also offer a buy-back program for 15% credit to be used online. They accept jewellery from any brand.
These vintage glasses have been in my family for years. There’s a multitude of vintage glasses online and in charity shops. Check Etsy or eBay for a start. I’m intrigued by these. Watch out when buying older crystal though; the lead content will likely be higher than those made today!
After searching for a natural deodorant with no white marks, I thought I’d try a refillable one. It’s gone straight into my gym bag. It’s so good. The refillable deodorant from Wild consists of a container and separate deodorant. The container stays the same, and the deodorant is swapped out each time. They also do mini deodorants in cardboard, which are great for travel. I like Fresh Cotton & Seasalt and Jasmine & Mandarin Blossom. I want to try the Rose Petal limited edition too before it runs out.
I’ve been wearing this woolly overshirt on repeat this month. My favourite way to wear it is with a long black dress underneath. It would look just as good thrown over yoga clothes, too. It’s RWS-certified wool and organic cotton, so it's cosy. It’s a style similar to the Passenger fleece I wrote about here. However, the overshirt is made from natural fibres, which I always love.
I’m currently coveting The Oversize jumper from Navy Grey, especially in the blue and red stripe. It would go with everything and look wonderful in the process. Navy Grey jumpers are made in the UK and have that classic look that never dates. The navy looks effortless. I’ve been in big oversized jumpers all winter, but I always look for others to add to my collection.
I struggle to know what to cook and eat while working from home. So, I took out a subscription for Planty. I love eating healthy vegan meals and have loved eating these. I keep them in the freezer and heat them in the oven to prepare them for lunch. The packaging can be recycled or sent back. They taste good, a favourite so far is the sweet and sour tempeh with rice. I’ve got a code for 25% off your first box if you want to try them out: https://planty.refr.cc/laurajanewatson11
And I know we’ve all seen reusable bottles before…but this is the one I can’t live without. The Ocean Bottle is a game-changer because it’s also a little flask. I use it for hot and cold drinks. It has a dual opening feature, which I think is to make it easier to clean. However, I prefer the bigger opening for drinking; it’s just nicer than drinking from a spout! This bottle has been everywhere with me; I keep meaning to invest in the 1L version, too.
Until next time,
Laura
